The course is still a go.

We have had lots of interest. So far one paid, and it appears 4-8 more to be paying soon. I suspect that we will end up with the usual number of about 12 participants.

If you are interested in taking the course please complete a INFORMED CONSENT WAIVER (availible at the main page of the website) and send money as per the course instructions (also follow the links at the main page of the website).

2008 BEGINNER KAYAKING COURSE

The Grande Prairie based Wapiti Whitewater Kayakers will be again will be running a kayaking lesson program this summer.

Beginner Kayaking Course
May 30 Fri WWK Lessons Beginner Kayaking Lessons- Leisure Center 8:30-11:00 pm
May 31 Sat WWK Lessons Beginner Kayaking Lessons- Lake+ Class 1 River all day (approx 9:30 am-5 pm)
June 1 Sun WWK Lessons Beginner Kayaking Lessons- Class 2- River all day (approx 8:30 am-5 pm)

- Payment and completed waiver of $175 will be in advance and includes membership to club for the 2008 year. Spots will be accepted on a first come first served basis. Please contact the club prior to sending payment to ensure a spot is available.

- Cheques are to be payable to Wapiti Whitewater Kayakers.
- A minimum of 8 persons are required. WWK reserves the right to cancel the course.
- The course participants may cancel up to 7 days preceding the course with a $50 penalty. No refunds will be provided for cancellation within the 7-day period.
- Transportation and meals are not included. Car-pooling will be done by course participants when traveling to the river.
- All kayaking equipment except wetsuits and booties are included. We have approx 10 wetsuits for those not on the extreme end of sizing, and will make those available on first come first served basis at, no charge.
- Persons on the extreme ends of sizing should contact the club if they have concerns over fitting into a kayak.
- The course will start Friday night with 45 minutes of boat fitting and theory and will then move into the Leisure Center Swimming pool for learning safe entry and exit into kayaks. Following that, basic kayaking strokes and rescues will be covered.
- On Saturday the course will move out to the Muskoseepi Park Pavilion Pond for a review of basic stokes and possible a short introduction to the game of kayak polo. The afternoon session will be a trip down the easy Wapiti River from O’Brien part to Magoo’s landing.
- Sunday typically starts early with a drive out the Simonette River, where it crosses the Forestry Truck Road. Various moving water techniques will be taught like ferrying, eddying in/out as well as numerous short trips down the river.
- Depending on the weather, course participants should be equipped with sunscreen, insect repellant, water, high-energy snacks, extra clothing and warm beverages.
